to celebrate our third anniversary last week, ross and i took a few days off from work to travel down to charleston, sc. charleston is a beautiful southern city (where i had never been before!) with breathtaking architecture, ocean views, and some seriously delicious food. we heard there are 3,000 restaurants in the City alone – that’s pretty hardcore. ross and i only had a chance to eat at 3 of the 3,000 – but i can safely say that the .1% sampling we had was mighty tasty.
to sum up our trip in a few words, i would say:
- charleston can have heat waves in october like no other. it was over 90 degrees the weekend we were there
- i can wholeheartedly recommend the following restaurants – Fig, Fleet Landing, and the Hominy Grill. At Fig, Ross sent his finished plate back to the waitress looking like he’d already washed it. They even let us keep our menu.
- Charleston is a very bikeable city and I recommend biking over walking – especially on those heat wave kinda days.
- Spending little to no money is possible, if you try really hard and stay as far away from King Street as possible.
- Never be surprised at how small a world it is. The tour guide on our 1 hour carriage ride around the City was from Hopewell (as in, so close to my hometown, its my mailing address)
- We took lots of pictures, but I haven’t even looked through them yet. Sad but true.
